Male vs. Female vs. Age
It’s true. Your age and gender do impact insurers’ rates. Younger drivers pay significantly more, with costs decreasing as drivers get older.
The median age in Hialeah is 44.2 years of age, meaning that most Hialeah drivers won’t have high age rates.
The cheapest age to be in Hialeah is 60 years old.
Age: | 17 | 25 | 35 | 60 | Cheapest Rate | Cheapest Age |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Average Annual Rate | $14,078.20 | $5,453.78 | $4,826.52 | $4,357.40 | $4,357.40 | 60 |
Teenager drivers pay THOUSANDS more for car insurance. Insurers base these rates on teenage drivers’ risk factors. The younger that drivers are, the less experience they have. This lack of experience makes them more likely to be involved in an accident.
So what about gender? In most cases, females have cheaper rates than males (who are considered to be riskier drivers).
In Hialeah, females pay an average of $6,848 for car insurance, while males pay an average of $7,178.
Let’s put all this information together now to see how both gender AND age impact Hialeah’s rates.
Demographic | Average Annual Rates |
---|---|
Married 60-year old female | $4,326.84 |
Married 60-year old male | $4,387.97 |
Married 35-year old male | $4,747.76 |
Married 35-year old female | $4,905.28 |
Single 25-year old female | $5,297.74 |
Single 25-year old male | $5,609.82 |
Single 17-year old female | $12,866.01 |
Single 17-year old male | $15,290.40 |
The bad news is that there is nothing you can do about your gender and age. Though finding a provider who doesn’t overly discriminate against drivers’ gender will help lower rates.
Cheapest Zip Codes in Hialeah
Where you live also influences insurers’ rates. This is because areas vary on how affected they are by crime rates and natural disasters.
With this in mind, let’s take a look at the CHEAPEST zip codes in Hialeah.
Zip Code | Average Annual Rate |
---|---|
33015 | $5,212.01 |

33013 | $5,525.01 |

USAA has the cheapest rates for all demographics EXCEPT teenagers. Geico actually has the cheapest rates for teens, even though it has the second highest average on the list.
Because of this, it might be more beneficial to pick a company based on what they charge for your demographic, rather than picking a company based on the cheapest overall rates.

If high coverage is still out of your budget, it is worthwhile to opt for medium coverage instead. After all, the better coverage you have, the better protected you are in an accident.

Multiple factors contribute to Florida’s car insurance coverages and rates.
To see how much car insurance costs in Hialeah, FL, we are going to look at multiple reports to see how much you SHOULD be paying for car insurance.

Major Highways
Florida has 12 active interstates running through Florida cities. These 12 active interstate routes make up 1,497 miles of roadway in Florida! Two of these routes, I-195 and I-95, run directly through Miami.

As you can see, I-95 and I-195 are close to Hialeah. Did you know? I-95 actually runs through more states than any other U.S. interstate.
Part of traveling on any public highway is paying tolls. The bad news is that Florida has the most toll roads in the U.S. There are over 700 miles of toll roads in Florida, with multiple tollbooths on Maimi’s main highways.
If you are traveling on Miami’s highways to or from Hialeah, those toll booths could cost you. While a few dollars may not seem like much, going a different route could save you quite a bit at the end of the year.
Florida also has cashless toll booths that accept prepaid toll devices through SunPass. SunPass devices cost around $20, but the user is then responsible for setting up an account to bill tolls.
The good news is that SunPass users pay the lowest tolls available on Florida’s highways. There are multiple payments amounts SunPass users can place on their device, though there is usually a minimum fee to open an account.
While SunPass doesn’t appear to have an annual pass cost, users will still receive the lowest toll, which will save money in the long run.

Traffic
Hialeah’s traffic is not noteworthy enough to appear on a traffic congestion scorecard, which is good news. If you are in Hialeah and are planning on visiting Miami, though, be aware that Miami does have fairly heavy traffic.

- Urban Areas — traffic is moving bumper to bumper or stop and go
- Rural Areas — changing lanes is difficult due to traffic
If you are traveling on main highways through Miami, you may want to seek an alternate route out of Hialeah that avoids heavy congestion.
How Safe are Hialeah’s Streets and Roads?
We’ve learned about Hialeah’s crime rates, but what about traffic risks? Multiple factors contribute to road risks, such as crash type or drunk driving.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) collected data on Florida’s county crash statistics. To start with, we will take a look at Miami-Dade County’s total fatal crashes in 2017.
Miami-Dade County | 2013 | 2014 | 2015 | 2016 | 2017 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Total Crashes | 225 | 280 | 339 | 294 | 285 |
Fatalities spiked in 2015, reaching over 300 fatal crashes. Up next, we want to take a look at alcohol-impaired driver fatality crashes. If you’ve ever had too much to drink, you know how your judgment becomes impaired.
Put an alcohol-impaired driver behind a wheel, and it’s disastrous. Reaction time is slowed, and stop signs suddenly seem like suggestions.
Fatal Crashes Involving an Alcohol-Impaired Driver (BAC = .08+) | 2013 | 2014 | 2015 | 2016 | 2017 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Total Fatal Crashes | 51 | 73 | 81 | 73 | 66 |
The worst result of drunk driving? Fatalities. While Maimi-Dade County doesn’t have the highest drunk driving fatalities in Florida, it doesn’t have the lowest numbers either.
As for the worst types of crashes, we’ve compiled NHTSA’s data on crash types in Miami-Dade County.
Crash Type | 2013 | 2014 | 2015 | 2016 | 2017 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Single Vehicle | 121 | 150 | 189 | 175 | 128 |
Involving Speeding | 31 | 25 | 29 | 30 | 23 |
Involving a Roadway Departure | 54 | 83 | 99 | 88 | 66 |
Involving an Intersection (or Intersection Related) | 93 | 117 | 159 | 130 | 148 |
Single vehicle crashes consistently have the worst fatality rates in Hialeah, followed by intersection or intersection related crashes. Passengers in cars aren’t the only ones who contribute to these fatality numbers, though.
Pedestrians and cyclists are also victims of crashes.
Person Type Fatalities | 2013 | 2014 | 2015 | 2016 | 2017 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Passenger | 72 | 82 | 110 | 93 | 105 |
Pedestrian | 72 | 74 | 86 | 83 | 58 |
Cyclist | 11 | 19 | 19 | 16 | 13 |
While car passengers have the highest fatality rates, pedestrians aren’t far behind.
Make sure to always use caution near roadways, as you can’t always depend on drivers to stop for you.
Next, we have NHTSA’s information on highways with the most fatal crashes. Take a look below to see how Florida’s fatalities fare based on road type.
Florida Road Type | Fatal Crashes |
---|---|
Rural Interstate | 97 |
Urban Interstate | 156 |
Freeway and Expressway | 84 |
Other | 876 |
Minor Arterial | 458 |
Collector Arterial | 309 |
Local | 258 |
Unknown | 684 |
Total Crashes | 2,922 |
What is an arterial road? Basically, it is a high-capacity urban road. Depending on the amount of traffic that needs to move through the area, the arterial road may be classified as a highway or a minor arterial road.
A collector road simply gathers traffic from local roads and takes drivers to arterial roads.
Most of Florida’s fatal crashes occur on arterial and minor arterial roads. Since Hialeah has quite a few arterial and minor arterial roads crossing through Miami-Dade County, drivers should be extra alert in these areas.
Another factor of safe roads is railroad and highway crash incidents. The US Department of Transportation (DOT) collected information on Hialeah’s fatalities and injuries due to highway and railroad crashes over the years.
Highway User Speed | Calendar Year | County | Highway | Highway User Type | Rail Equipment Type | Non-Suicide Fatality | Non-Suicide Injury |

Weather
Hialeah resides in the Sunshine State, which means the weather is reflective of Florida’s average temperatures and precipitations. Let’s take a look at U.S. Climate Data’s information on Hialeah’s weather to determine how much vitamin D you will get.
Hialeah, FL Weather | Details |
---|---|
Annual High Temperature | 82.4 F |
Annual Low Temperature | 69.5 F |
Average Temperature | 75.95 F |
Average Annual Precipitation (Rainfall) | 70.44 inches |
Snowfall wasn’t included for a reason, as there is RARELY snowfall in Florida! While driving in snow isn’t on driver’s list of things to be cautious around, Hailiah does have a small number of natural disasters.
Hialeah has had a total of 8 natural disaters in the Miami-Dade area, which is lower than the U.S average. These disasters include hurricanes, tropical storms, and tornados.
So how should you protect your car in the chance one of these natural disasters happens in your lifetime? The best protection against natural disasters is comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive coverage will help pay for damages to a car caused by something other than a collision with another car, such as fire, flood, hail, or vandalism. Even if a natural disaster doesn’t happen in your lifetime, Hialeah’s crime rate may make it worthwhile to have comprehensive coverage.
Public Transit
Hialeah residents who don’t own cars, or those who simply prefer to use public transit, usually must pay the cost of public transportation unless carpooling or walking is an option.
In the Miami-Dade County area, residents can purchase Metrorail or Metrobus tickets. The costs of both buses and trains are below.
- Metrorail — Fare: $2.25. Monthly pass: $112.50.
- Metrobus — Fare: $2.25. Monthly pass: $112.50.
Alternate Transportation
If you want a different method of transportation other than a bus or train, it may be worth looking into bike or scooter rentals. Hialeah city doesn’t offer these rentals, but Miami city in the Miami-Dade County area does.
If you are planning a weekend visit, below are some popular options for scooter and bike rentals in the Miami-Dade area.
- Lime — This company offers both bike and scooter rentals. Lime has fixed rates per minute, but you will need to check the Lime app for costs in the Miami area, as rates vary by city, weekday, and time of day.
- Bird — This company offers scooter rentals. Just like Lime, Bird has fixed rates per minute that vary by city.
While these bike and scooter rentals won’t take you as far as a bus or train, they are great for riding around a neighboring city for a day.
Parking in Metro Areas
One of the worst parts of traveling through any city is trying to find parking! Luckily, there are plenty of parking options in Hialeah. Of course, during prime busy hours, it may be harder to find a parking spot on the streets of Hialeah.
While you may find a parking spot on the street, there are also parking garages available. Some charge a fee, while others are free to use during certain hours.
If you drive an electric vehicle, you also need to be aware of where charging stations are when you’re driving around trying to find a place to park. Within a ten mile radius of Hialeah, there are a total of 147 electric charging stations for electric vehicles.
As for satellite parking, this is generally offered at airports and hotels. Since Hialeah doesn’t have an airport, most satellite parking situations will be located in the neighboring city of Miami.
Air Quality in Hialeah
How do vehicles today contribute to air quality? When vehicles were first invented, they belched out toxic fumes as they stuttered down the streets.
Today, there are much stricter air-quality control regulations on cars. This doesn’t mean that the smog cars produce isn’t still an issue. Pollution can have a serious effect on people’s health.
While smog checks aren’t required in Florida, it is advisable to check your car’s smog emission. The last thing you want is to breathe in harmful fumes while driving.
Let’s take a look at the air quality index in the Maimi-Dade County area. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has collected years worth of data on air quality, some of which we have included below.
Miami-Dade County Air Quality Index | 2016 | 2017 | 2018 |
---|---|---|---|
Days with AQI | 360 | 354 | 365 |
Good Days | 260 | 284 | 294 |
Days Moderate | 97 | 66 | 67 |
Days Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups | 3 | 4 | 4 |
Days Unhealthy | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Days Very Unhealthy | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Out of the days the EPA measured air quality index from 2016 to 2018, there were no harmful or very harmful days. In fact, the number of good days actually went up slightly over the years.
Hopefully, an increased focus on clean transportation and stricter vehicle smog control policies will continue to make the air better across the U.S.

Unique Hialeah Laws
Every city has unique laws that residents should be aware of. Not knowing your city’s laws could result in a ticket, which nobody wants to pay!
To help you navigate Hialeah’s driving laws, we are going to go through some lesser known and unique laws.
Keep reading to learn everything you need to know about driving in Hialeah, especially if you own a special vehicle like a food truck or tiny home.
Hands-Free Driving Law
In Florida, it is illegal to text while driving. Drivers may still use hands-free devices (such as Bluetooth to make a call) but may be ticketed for driving while texting.
Hands-free driving enforcement is secondary in Florida, meaning law enforcement can’t pull you over just for texting.
The City of Hialeah and Florida are working to strengthen the hands-free driving law by making it a first offense. This means drivers can be pulled over just for texting.
Florida is also working on creating and trying to pass a stricter hands-free driving law by banning ALL distracting activities.
Food Trucks
If you are thinking of operating a food truck in Hialeah, you will have to follow Miami-Dade County’s regulations. Below are some of the most important laws about food trucks.
- Certificate of Use required
- Must operate in permissible zoning areas
- Follow hours of operation
- 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays
- 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. weekends
- Sale of alcohol prohibited
These are just a few of the regulations food trucks must follow. Owners of food trucks must also follow rules regarding parking, music use, and other laws.
Tiny Home
Tiny homes have become all the rage in the 21st century. Miami-Dade County has begun to consider tiny homes as a solution to the housing crisis it is facing. If you are looking to own a tiny home in Florida, there are a few things you need to know beforehand.
Not only will you need to ensure your tiny home, but you will need to make sure you park in the right areas. Typically, a tiny home is considered a mobile home and must follow similar restrictions to an RV or trailer.
In Miami-Dade County, mobile homes are not allowed to park outside approved mobile home parks. There are a few exceptions to this law, but tiny homeowners must meet certain requirements.
If you are looking to downsize, a tiny home in Hialeah may just be for you! The best part? You can pick up and move your tiny home anytime you want.
Parking Laws
One of the biggest headaches of living in a city is finding parking. It might be tempting to park wherever you can find a spot, but make sure you are facing the same direction as the traffic in the lane nearest you.
Parking in the wrong direction may result in a ticket, as it is proof that you drove on the wrong side of the road to park!
In some places, you may be able to reserve spots at garages, airports, or hotels for a fee. If you are busy, this may be a great option to save time on parking.
After all, parking can lead to some serious frustration and disputes.
